When beginning something for the first time we all have a vision in our head that we have to be perfect right off the bat. Whether it be eating healthy or starting a new workout program we set our expectations too high which leave us a long way to fall when things don't go according to that expectation. The truth of the matter is, we are going to make mistakes when trying something new for the first time, no matter who you are!
One of my favorite sayings is:
Fall down 7 times, stand up 8
Since starting Insanity, I will admit I had high expectations for myself. Now I am focused on just getting through each workout and making slow but steady progress! I had to get a grip and realize this program was designed to kick my ass. My first few days I found myself asking "What have I gotten myself in to?" and "Why did I ever think I could do this?!" I now understand that during my first couple weeks I'm not supposed to keep up with Shaun T and I'm going to ride the struggle bus through majority of these workouts to start out. I have to build myself up and have enough confidence and motivation in myself to not allow these previous expectation get me down.
The same thing goes for eating habits. Although you may be totally committed in eating clean, life will always throw that piece of chocolate cake in your face and you simply need to eat your way through it. Don't let one bad decision map out the rest of you day or even your week. Get right back in there and learn from your mistakes. I admit I fall victim to my sweet tooth every now and then but I am finding way to satisfy it in healthier ways then eating an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's.
Just because you can't make it through that workout your first couple weeks or you had Taco Bell for lunch doesn't mean you are doomed and should give up. You are learning and you can do it! Remember why you started and keep pushing.
"But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for
your work will be rewarded." 2 Chronicles 15:7
